Terrell Stoglin - Basketball ACC Conference Picks: Maryland Terrapins at Clemson Tigers

Two struggling teams with two-game losing streaks battle as Maryland Terrapins and Clemson Tigers try to climb into the upper division of the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Maryland has dropped five of six, including a hard-fought loss to then No. 6 North Carolina last weekend while Clemson has lost five of seven, the latest a two-point loss at Virginia Tech in a game that saw the Tigers rally from 17 down to almost win.

The Terrapins have won the last two meetings in the series, both in College Park, Md., but the Tigers have won the last two games played at Littlejohn Coliseum.

Justbet Sportsbook currently have the Tigers listed as 7½-point favorites versus the Terrapins.

Maryland Terrapins (13-9): Terrell Stoglin has been the leader for the Terps, leading the ACC in scoring (21.7), which ranks fifth in the nation. He scored a career-high 33 in a double overtime loss at Miami last week. Stoglin, who has hit double figures in 21 of 22 games this season, has topped the 20-point mark 16 times, including five of his last six games, and he has scored 30 or more three times. Senior guard Sean Mosley, who is second on the team in scoring (10.1) has 999 points in his career and needs one point to become the 50th player in Maryland history to top the 1,000-point mark. Maryland ranks 336th out of 338 teams in Division I in steals, averaging only 4.0 per game.

Clemson Tigers (11-11): The Tigers continue to be one of the top defensive teams in the ACC, allowing just 60.3 points per game, which ranks 31st in the nation. Andre Young leads the team in scoring (13.6) and has stepped his game up in league play, averaging 14.9. Young is fifth in the nation in assist-to-turnover ratio (3.1) and 20th in free throw percentage (.884). Tanner Smith averages 11.1 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 4.0 assists. Devin Booker paces the Tigers in rebounding (6.7) to go along with his 10.9 points. Clemson has gone 12 straight games without hitting 50 percent from the field, and in four of those games, have been under 40. The Tigers have lost their last three ACC games by a total of nine points.

1. These teams are a mirror image of each other on offense. Maryland shoots .431 from the field and .325 from 3-point range, while Clemson is at .430 and .327, respectively.

2. Maryland finishes the ACC season with five of seven on the road, which has not been good to the Terps. Maryland, which still has road trips to Duke, Virginia, and North Carolina, has not won a true road game this season (0-4). The only wins for the Terps away from College Park were against Colorado and Notre Dame on neutral courts.

3. Clemson's best win of the season was against Florida State 79-59 on Jan. 7 in the conference opener for both teams. It was the second highest point total of the year for the Tigers while FSU has not lost since, is nationally-ranked, and tied for first place.

BASKETBALL PREDICTION: Tigers 69, Terrapins 63.
