NCAA Basketball Championship Best Bets: Wager Smart to Win Big

The BetUS Sportsbook has listed the odds to win the NCAA Basketball Championship, and these bets give basketball betting fans great opportunities to cash in at the end of the March Madness tournament.  The odds call for a Kentucky vs. Butler national championship game, but consider that the four teams battling for a chance to play in the National Championship game are three, four, eight and eleven seeds. So in this tournament, anything is possible.

Odds to Win NCAA Basketball Championship:
Kentucky Wildcats            +140
Connecticut Huskies         +220
Butler Bulldogs                 +350
VCU Rams                         +550

Kentucky Wildcats is the solid pick, the one for those bettors that don’t like to take big risks.  Sure, the team can win it all. Back in the Final Four for the first time in 13 seasons, the Wildcats have a coach with experience in John Calipari.  In only his second year at Kentucky, Coach Calipari led Memphis to the Final Four back in 2008 before having their season’s successes vacated for allowing players to play that had not passed exams.  Prior to that, Calipari led Massachusetts to the Final Four in 1996, but that appearance was also eliminated from the history books due to improprieties of a player.  Needless to be said, Calipari has been here before, but has never had great success.  He’s hoping to turn that all around this season with his talented Kentucky team.

The one disadvantage of the Wildcats team is their depth. Kentucky relies heavily on a six-man rotation, so any foul trouble means big trouble for the Wildcats.

Connecticut Huskies follows Kentucky in the odds at +220.  Despite having a sub-par season, the team has come together in the NCAA Tournament.  The Connecticut Huskies are also led by an experienced coach, both with team success and a fair share of trouble too.  Coach Jim Calhoun has been banned from the first three Big East conference games for next season and hit with scholarship reductions for recruiting violations. However, Coach Calhoun is the most experienced team leader in the Final Four, with 25 seasons at Connecticut and 17 NCAA Tournament appearances.

With perhaps the best player left in the tournament carrying the Huskies, UConn will pose a tough challenge for the Wildcats on Saturday.  The key to the Huskies’ success or demise is Kemba Walker.  Although Jeremy Lamb has contributed significantly throughout the tournament, Walker is still the decisive factor.  Shut him down, and the Huskies are going home.

The Butler Bulldogs, a repeat Cinderella team, are back in the Final Four for the second year in a row, this time ranked at +350 in the tournament odds to win the crown.  Coach Brad Stevens is the youngest coach to make it to his second Final Four at 34 years old. Butler is also the only team to reach the Final Four in back-to-back years without being a number one or two seed.  The Bulldogs key to Final Four success is beyond the arc.  The team has won 50 of its last 53 games when able to hit nine or more three-pointers.  The Shelvin Mack and Matt Howard combo will have to perform to lead Butler back to the national championship game this year.

What are the VCU Rams chances?  Well, quite good actually. VCU boasts of a terrifically deep team and a smart, young coach in Shaka Smart. With four players averaging in double figures, this well-balanced group can find ways to score.  The Rams are last in the NCAA basketball betting odds to win the national championship, listed at +550, but why can’t they win it?  Having defeated the top teams in the nation to reach this point, there’s no guarantee that the Rams can be stopped now. VCU offers the best betting odds to win big for the national championship game and I’m betting on them to go all the way.
