by Bovada Sportsbook
It’s pretty simple for the Detroit Lions heading into Saturday’s game with the San Diego Chargers: A Detroit win and the Lions will end a 12-year playoff drought. For the surging Bolts it’s a bit more complicated, but certainly San Diego must win its final two games to have any shot at the postseason. The Lions opened as 3-point favorites on Bovada’s NFL football odds.

San Diego (7-7, 5-9 ATS) remains in contention for both an AFC wild-card spot and the AFC West title. The Chargers played their best game of the season Sunday night, a 34-14 win over the Baltimore Ravens that was San Diego’s first win of the season over a team with a winning record. San Diego has beaten its past three opponents by a combined score of 109-38 after losing six straight. The Chargers are now 20-2 in December/January under coach Norv Turner. San Diego will win the AFC West if it wins its next two games and Denver loses its next two games.
QB Philip Rivers has been a different player of late. He was 17 of 23 passes for 270 yards and a TD vs. Baltimore to lead the Chargers to scores on six of their first seven possessions. Rivers led the NFL in interceptions for much of the season but has now gone four straight games without one.
Detroit (9-5, 6-6-2 ATS) has won two in a row and rallied for a 28-27 win at Oakland on Sunday. QB Matthew Stafford completed 29 of 52 passes for 391 yards and four touchdowns. He completed nine for 214 yards and two TDs to Calvin Johnson, who ended a five-game drought with no 100-yard receiving games and only one touchdown. It was the third-most receiving yards in Detroit history. The Lions were down 27-14 with a little more than 5 minutes remaining.
The Lions haven’t beaten San Diego since 1978, losing six straight. The last meeting was in 2007.
